Hospital Indemnity Insurance

Hospital Indemnity insurance, also called Hospitalization insurance or Hospital insurance, is a plan that pays you benefits when you are confined to a hospital, whether for planned or unplanned reasons, or for other medical services, depending on the policy.

UnitedHealthcare Hospital insurance plans, underwritten by Golden Rule Insurance Company or UnitedHealthcare Life Insurance Company, can help you fill gaps in your medical coverage by providing cash to help cover deductibles, pharmacy prescriptions and other non-covered expenses that may arise from hospital stays and services.

Why Hospital Insurance?

Hospital stays can strain even the healthiest of budgets. And in many cases, you can’t ignore the care you need even if it pushes you financially. Hospital Indemnity insurance plans provide payment for each day spent in the hospital, and for some other qualified expenses as well. That’s money you can use as you choose, whether for hospital bills or those other costs that come up while you’re recovering.

What Are the UnitedHealthcare Hospital Insurance Plan Options?

Hospital SafeGuard

Our basic Hospital SafeGuard plan pays a fixed amount per day for hospital confinements, up to the calendar-year maximum.

Important: While Hospital SafeGuard and Hospital SafeGuard Premier plans have no network limitations, you may need to stay with certain networks and providers to get the most coverage out of your major medical plan. Be sure to take that into consideration.

Hospital SafeGuard Premier

Hospital SafeGuard Premier pays a fixed amount for hospital confinements in addition to other qualified medical services up to the calendar-year maximum. Medical services that may be covered by Hospital SafeGuard Premier include:

  • Emergency room visits
  • Ambulance services
  • Services at an Urgent Care Center
  • Anesthesia services
  • In/outpatient surgeries

How Simple Is It to Use Hospital Indemnity Insurance?

With Hospital SafeGuard or Hospital SafeGuard Premier, very simple. After you receive care for a qualified medical service, simply complete a claim form and submit it with copies of your receipts. That’s it. Then you’ll receive a check for the fixed amount specified by your plan for that service (within your calendar-year maximum).

1
Receive care for qualified
medical service

2

Note: To qualify for Hospital SafeGuard or Hospital SafeGuard Premier, you must already have a health plan that is considered minimum essential coverage (MEC) by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare. Hospital Indemnity insurance is a supplement to a major medical health plan, not a substitution. If you don’t have MEC insurance as outlined in the ACA, you may be subject to a tax penalty.

Protect your finances from hospital stays – even expected visits – with Hospital SafeGuard Insurance from UnitedHealthcare.
